In the 2024/25 school year, the first year groups of element-i pupils in Karlsruhe progressed to the sixth form (G9) and are now continuing their individual learning journey towards the Abitur. The new grammar school sixth form (G9), officially recognised by the state, combines the element-i pedagogy with the Baden-Württemberg state curriculum to create a unique learning concept.

Pupils learn to:

  • Develop their individual strengths using modern learning methods and personal coaching.

  • Place a special emphasis on Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, and Technology (STEM).

  • Work project-based, engaging in exciting projects with flexible learning schedules.

  • Improve foreign language skills through practical conversation with native speakers.

  • Strengthen life skills in the seminar course “Happiness”, learning to manage resources efficiently, pursue visions and goals, and overcome obstacles and setbacks.

  • Make the most of digital whiteboard technology and state-of-the-art facilities in a new school building.

“I like attending the element-i sixth form because it is technically well-equipped and offers worthwhile clubs, such as the school first-aiders.”

Individual and interest-based – the element-i pedagogy at the element-i School

At the element-i School, we encourage our pupils to pursue their personal interests and to bring them into the classroom. We give them as much freedom as possible while setting the necessary boundaries for optimal development. In mixed-age, cross-year learning groups at the element-i Primary and Community School, every pupil can productively develop their potential at their own pace.

Progressive digitalisation is transforming society and will present young people with entirely new challenges. They need to learn to act responsibly and will require, more than ever, skills such as self-responsibility, organisation, creativity, technical understanding, adaptability, and resilience for their personal and professional lives. Educators guide and advise pupils in shaping their personal and individual learning process. As coaches, they provide targeted feedback on performance and guidance in self-organisation and acquiring learning strategies.

During project-based learning phases, pupils explore self-chosen questions about the future. We empower them to meet the challenges of our time with courage, responsibility, and creativity. By learning to develop innovative and concrete solutions, pupils experience how they can make a difference in the world.
